it might not be your idea of fun, but I include 2 lost phones, a tequila soaked bag full of sand and half a memory as a good time.

lost in time, space, meaing...ok, well, just Indai
so, bored with my new obsession: the L Word, which I've been watchin when I get home from the factory, as its late, I know no one here, and my attempts to find a bar have been unsuccessful.... until this point, that ia.
Finishing up a little earlier yesterday after trying to find buttons (which proved a little harder then planned. The dude from the factory, who was lovely, clearly did
not enjoy showing strange-lady-with-weird-haircut round on his only day off. but he was so helpful and did his best to make sure i didnt get ripped off. with only 2 button shops where we in this awesome market, which I should have stayed at for longer on my own...but anyway, thats another issue, the button-shopping trip turned into buy gifts for mama, sister and mama's best friend, oh and did i mention me?? But I found some random shit, which you will see on the models that I hurl down the runway, ok not hurl.. but I'll have them doing something!
So, I finished up early, and got back to the hotel, and took a cab to some area where I knew I could get a massage, which I knew was near some bars (i am smarter then i look. well, thats how i was feeling.. then) ... I found a pub, and had a couple of cocktails to myself, and felt a little drunk, and finally like I was in a different country. When trying to ask someone for directions, he actually asked me if I "spoke English?"
"Erm..yeah, I'm speaking it" (I didnt go into the fact that I only speak English.
"Then how come I don't understand you?"
Well, thats one fuckin compliment! The only language, which I feel I have mastered pretty well, is completely useless to me! And dont get me started on my attemps to learn Hindi. I know I am not going to do well with those learning language CDs. Its not cos I am being hard on my self! I know I will learn nothin...cos I lost the freakin CD already! Dang.. thats what I could have been doing in my time off, learning Hindi, but oh know, I am speandin my time off from the factory watchin hot chicks get it on...hey, that doesnt sound so bad.
Anywayz, the collection is lookin cute.. I think there r a couple of pieces people might actually wear. which is pretty good out of 30pcs! but I dont want to give anything away at this point!
Oh so anyway, found a bar, and when ready to go home, I realized I had NO IDEA where the hotel was.. I called the one guy I know here, who pretty much said 'figure it out yourself' and hung up on me. He said he didnt know where the hotel was, even though I am pretty sure its right near his house. Ok, oh well, its India, getting lost is part of the experience (is that what people mean about "finding themselves"..once they get back to the hotel?)
But 2 lovely guys next to me helped me, I didnt even think it was suspicious that he wanted my full name and room number when he was trying to find my hotel. It only occurred to me when he called me that night to see if I was ok. So Mr. one-of-the-"lovely guys next to me" turned into "hi-you-ok-i'm-a-potential-murderer". and just like in Shaune of the Dead, i bolted the door and locked it (if you've seen it, you might know what am talking about, ..they way they film it? ya know??). and slept in preperation for him to come in and say "i just wanted to check you were ok??" but i am awake, and writing this down in case he does come, and you guys can tell the cops who it was.
got a button hunting day today, and actually feel better then i did last night, as I had hangover straight away from my mojito (who drinks that in India??? oh, that'll be me.)
I hope this has been somewhat amusing, or at least worth your time procrastinating..

Burjumans Runway Art Fashion Competition Recognizes Eccentric Designs At Dubais Avant Garde Fashion Showcase
The Crowning Event Of The Two Week Art And Fashion Took Place On The Evening Of Thursday 13 December 2007 In Burjuman.
Advertising Info
The crowning event of the two-week Art and Fashion took place on the evening of Thursday 13 December 2007 in BurJuman. Talented UAE-based fashion designers were chosen from the professional and amateur categories of Runway Art, the fashion competition held as part of Art and Fashion 2007. The competition was an exciting and inspiring event to all emerging and budding talent, offering a platform for designers to publicly display their visual works of fashionable art.
Runway Art, now in its second successful year, is a fashion competition composed of two categories: the professional category for designers with at least 3 years fashion experience, and the amateur category which is open to all emerging talent. In October, BurJuman invited all talented designers to defy convention, think out of the box and enter the fashion contest to showcase their creative craft, bearing in mind the competition theme: Eccentricity. Short-listed entrants were given eight weeks to complete their designs and unveiled their creations to judges the night of the competition.
Two winners were chosen from each of the professional and amateur categories. Angello De Vesus won the popular vote with his creation, Falcon Queen, an embellished depiction of the falcon as a powerful ruling figure, and walked away with the grand cash prize of AED 20,000. The recipient of the runner-up award of AED 10,000 in the same category is Jolly Cabrera with his design, Fashion Revolution, an east-meets-west reflection of modern fashion.
The Amateur category also saw two aspiring designers walk their eccentric creations on the runway. Winner Rollan David Manuel took home AED 15,000 with his creation, Looney, and runner-up Buffi Simone Jashanmal was awarded AED 7,500 for her design, Do Not Overtake in the Right-Hand Lane.
Finalists showcased their creative designs on the catwalk to key figures in the world of fashion and art. Judging the event was prominent designer Walid Atallah, stylist and designer Mandi Kingsbury, Desert Fish magazine creative director Pieter Richweisz and Jumana magazine editor Jill Downie. Each critic brought to the panel their fashion expertise and judged the designs on creativity, uniqueness, craftsmanship, and of course, overall presentation.
In addition to the judges and designers, Kacy’s Beauty Salon provided the hair styling on the models using L’Oreal products, while LancĂ´me generously provided the makeup. All finalists will also have their creations exhibited in BurJuman from 16-21 December on the Glass Bridge for all to enjoy!

"I'm an alien"
why is it that this time of year i always seem to wake up with some bits of meat and cheese in my mouth (Okay so its so not every this-time-of year, but it is today). Last night was just another night insane night in Dubai...from spending the whole day, not kidding, I had 3 fruit juices during the duration of the 6 hours, YES< 6 hours we spend in M O E (pronounced EM-OH-EEEEEE, as me and the sis like to say, and stands for Mall of the Emirates, if ya didn't know) Xmas shopping and Crimbo party shopping, trailer trash style, yes, that is the theme of our party... and NO it is for no apparent reason except to give me a good enough reason to excuse myself for my normal attire which usually arouses the question "what did you come as?" this time.. need no explanation.. init??
Oh, and in case you were wondering... the meat and cheese in my mouth was from the Arab food stuff we munched on in the early hours of the morning after we'd spend the best part of the night dancing at the new club in doobs, well.. maybe it wasn't dancing so much (wink wink nod nod, tee hee).
So I have the next few days of being completely wasted and have to work out how I am going to get through the extremely hedonistic for days ... I have a funny feeling Christmas in Dubai is not going to be like Xmas in the country side in the Uk with the parents..
So here's the DL, hit some fancy pantsy bar, with little character, clientele-wise, people is suits FREAK me out, I just, I just don't get them. Its like this whole weird world, and everyone is wearing suits.. I get real nervous and have to drink lots. So we downed some rather tasty french martini's had a quick boogey to the live band who cheered us up with "I'm an Alien" and some other non-xmas related crimbo songs, and jumped in a cab and headed to my girl Tamster-troubleton, where they were doin' their best to keep the noise level down while her mumma got some rest.. NOT! it was insane in there, we were greated by Justin, who was nursing a hippo who had terrible windy pops and a peeing problem, Tony who was looking a lot like Garth from wayne's world, and tammy who was, actually, she was being normal and gorgeous, but it was a mad hatter's tea, no, vodka party, and I was glad to be in! no a suit in sight, I felt safe, so downed some vodka, purely to catch up...
We headed over to the new club, Elegante, which honestly should come with a safety warning.. There are hidden steps made for tripping over, I am going to suggest better lighting.. or no steps to them, or not. I don't know, but its damn dangerous if you ask me..mreeeeee
With mini trumpets and tiny useless violins me and the crew were a force to be reckon'd with (is that the saying, what does it mean anyway).
SO now, well and truely hungover, or prob still drunk, I am going to get a facial, a massage and maybe drink some more fruit juice to prep for tonights parties.. 2 launches to go to, a magazine launch and a beauty salon, all roof top parties.... ahh... what is a girl to do!???
Outside my window, in the garden, I can see a christmas tree, and it looks like the one out of the Charlie Brown Xmas special... ya all know that one, right? I found some awesomely special giant bauble and its made my day!
MERRY CRIMBO to the lot of ya! I wish ya all a wonderful holiday and hope that next year ya all join the gym, quit smoking, drink less, eat better and make sure you pick up all the bad habits so that this time, next year, we can do it all over again..
(lost the lead for my camara but pix of the trouble and the xmas tree will be up soon.. as I am sure you are all dying to see!)

On top of my game
So I'm feeling pretty good these dayz... besides being slightly pale and still a few Kgs over what I'd like, but we cant all be perfect!.. but that is something I am going to get rid of...TODAY! ok, might take a bit longer but whateverz..
So after winning 2nd place, (winning sounds more positive then simply 'coming second') with cash prize under my belt, I now have a little bit to put invest into my collection. So I will be on air this week chatting about fashion related stuff, and the Avant Garde fashion comp, of course!
After a K-K-Krazy weekend, which began weds, as I was wiped from the 6months dedication to the fashion show, I had to get wasted, and we began our night at a fancy-pantsy place where there serve mini pieces of toast made for barbie dolls.. I would imagine.. so freakin cute though.. like real mini bread, with the top bit rounded, ya know? ended up at Zinc, which is the armpit of all armpits.. I dont know where they find the people who go to this meat market.. well, I say that.. but I did bump into 2 peeps that I know.. But this place, is like, THE WORST! after downing 2 bull frogs, which are not shots, but huge glasses full of something that looks like what comes out of the power plant in the Simpsons, me and the sister were drun-gry (thats hungry when your drunk in my terms) we headed to this place and demanded "Meat and Cheese", not sure what exactly it was that we wanted.. But we left satisfied.
Night after was my "winning" night! which also happened to be lia's night of winning too (the Jashanmal sisters do it again.. well not again,... just...erm DO IT)..thanks to her whole I'm-French thing she's got going, and listening to French radio all the time, she won a comp when doing her weekly french radio listening, which was tickets to a DIFF after party (Dubai International Film Festival) which was awesome.. held at this amazing venue here in Doobs, with free flowing champs and fancy cocktails, as well as the most amazing nibbles (I gave in and ate mini amounts of carbs!..I HAD to though!).. WE then met some MTV peeps who the sister knew from the last DIFF, when she was a famous gal on the red carpet, chatting to celebs and shit. Showed these boys how to P A R T Y at the Apartment.. by feeding them shots and then stubbled back home..
With a killer hangover and little sleep the next day, being Friday, I got up and prepared for the Xmas Party I was attending.. Naughty Nativity.. for fear of dressing like anyone else, I put on my best thinkin cap, and knew I'd be safe as a not-so-sexy Christmas tree...(bingo!). But with some cute hells, and a dress which was slightly titty revealing, I think I was a little closer to Naughty then your average plastic Carrefour Xmas tree.. Covered in tinsel and baubles I jumped in my cab. As freakin' usual...NIGHTMARE journey..
I am the type a gal who likes to be the driving seat.. and I cant handle TAXI's in Dubai.. NIGHTMARE ever f***in' time! After driving round for an hour (a journey which should have been half an hour) the dude dumped me in the middle of no where, and told me to find my own why..
So there I was, dressed as a slightly-sexy xmas tree, with a look to kill.. hardly your xmas spirit...
Made it, got there, got wasted, had fun.. pix to follow..
After another killer hangover, well, it was shakes really, I spend a lovely jubbly day with the sister..
EVERYONE: go and see Across the Universe...its incredible, this dude, Jim Sturgess, who I went to school with, is AMAZING in it... its AMAZING! we got to see it on bean bags at the out door cinema.. which was pretty bad ass...
Yestersady, I woke up,... still hungover.. but more cranky.. I was feeling the effects . Then I got a call.. which put me back on top of my game!..Voted into the Top Hot 100 in Doobs! Keep ya posted on the photo shoot for that this week or next...
Happy Crimbo to all of you!!!!!

models, hotels, long drives, protein shakes, gym....
...thats how I roll. I'm a freakin' rolling stone.
here are some pix for recent events and shoots I've been workin'. this is the desert fish shoot..:

the middle 3 pix are from the motorola event i did at the fancy burj el arab!:

and the last 4 pix are from the Hilton shoot, i had one long ass drive in lia's rather unstable car, aka Lucky.. The most chill shoot ever.. everything went extremely smoothy, andw e were taken really good care of too! thanks nats!:

This week has been quiet a week for lil ol' me here in lil old doobs, a place that moves so fast, I'm never ready for the weekend. Its also the time of year when you get to reflect a little on the year.. and dang, what a year its been..
It started out pretty damn bad, a restraining order, an evil evil boyfriend (who has decided to contact me, via email last night! he actually has the freakin' nerve to email me about his broken heart! I can't believe it!), leavin NY for Doobs, 4 more tattoos, hair extensions, changing jobs, starting own company.. twise... and now it's the end of the year.
I have over come my fear of driving in Dubai, and have been working harder and enjoying it more then ever.
Without boring ya all with my whole year... I thought I'd let ya into some of the things that have been keepin me going this week.
til next time.
peace.

More S*uce for me Please!!!!

'My favorite store is Spinneys.' Well, at least it was when I was 8 years old, growing up in Doobs. After our class had taken a school trip to Jashanmals (that's my family store, by the way, and for those living outside the UAE, (God forbid - its the center of the universe) Spinneys is a supermarket), our homework was to draw a piccy of our fav store, and give a reason why. I was too embarrassed to say that it was coz of all the sweeties. Even then I was worrying about my weight! Weird child! I was clearly expected to say Jashanmals.. duh! Dad now has is hanging up in his office, much to the amusement of.. well.. everyone.
Although my heart does belong to Carrefour (I seriously should be paid for the amount of advertising I do for them), I am having a secret and very very S*ucey relationship... with S*uce.
I literally start drooling when I go in there.. its like how I was as a kid in Spinneys over the sweeties! Although S*uce is a little more expensive then the candy bars I was buying then, its a similar type of high!
Carrying all the bad-ass awesome contemporary designers you really do feel like a kid in a sweet store, this boutique is my one top shop you need to check out here in Doobs! From the packaging to the store front, everything is so completely delicious. I don't know about you guys, but I am feeling S*ucey!

oh deary me...

Sometimes I forget how much my life has changed in the last 7 months since I left New York. I don't think my New York friends would recognize me now! Back there I hung out in dirty dive bars in the East Village, spending most of it in the toilets solving the worlds problems or dancing to The Doors, Le Tigre, The Kills, The Cure, Stella Star with my long black hair and skinny jeans; now I find myself at parties with names like Plastik and Gorgeous, where people use more then a black eye liner to get ready, a million miles from Santa Fe (aka home), my local drinking den in Williamsburg in New York.... You have to go, its off the L train at Lorimer... highly recommended! Mention my name and they'll kick ya out prob.. nah, they'll treat ya good.
Talking about forgetting things, I completely forgot the whole of last night.. well, some bits are clear... It was me and my girl Linda causing a bit of trouble on the top of a podium at yesterdays beach party, where I have to say I did feel a little old with all these skinny young bitches prancing around in next to nothing... Ok, when I was that age I did too.. but its just cheap! Kidding,.. TOTAL jealous! The hot chocolate that I just downed is defo not helping me get back to skinny-bitch status, but fuck it, I enjoyed it, although if I'd drunk it slower I might not be feelin so sick right now.
ANYWAY, so my sister, who has been boring-weird-French-wanna-be for the last month (she has been punishing herself for having so much fun in France by not drinking or enjoying life for 4 weeks, and its been a long 4 weeks) decided to drink at the Plastik beach party. And dude, was I glad to have her back in full drinking form.. well full drinking form is not strickly actually! She ended up making an early exit, and think she came close to vomming it all back up. The last I saw of her was a hick-uping mess stumbling up the steps to find a taxi.
Okay, let me try and start the story from the beginning, something I am not good at. Beginnings are so important though, I just find it hard to start them...
I get a cab with my lovely ladies, Linda (who we are going to call Blanket from now on... i need not explain, its not really that interesting) and Natlie, and lia and the lovely Aymen cab it together. 200 AED later, and a couple of hours of driving round, and we finally get there! I completely blame everyone but myself. Between calling friends, the hotel (which had another location completely in the other direction, which we went to, which wasnt even on a beach) driving back and forth from Jebel Ali, ... ya know what, this story is pretty boring. I'm even getting sick of it.. so forget the beginnings.. I hate beginnings, middles are the best.... (I'm hungover and confused)
The beach party was pretty awesome though, and hanging with a group that were practically showering themselves in champagne made for good company. Dancing up by the table I did managed to step on a sharwarma (I have absolutely NO idea how you spell that, and I did try to dictionary.com it, but they have absolutely NO idea either it would appear!) which was gross.
(I should be out sunbathing, the weather is perfect sunbathing weather, but I find it so dull.)
Wasted by 6pm means bed by 10pm! I kindda feel like I got ripped off this weekend, a little cheated, ya know.
So for now. from me. signing out.

All grown up like Anna Piaggi

so, its been one hell of a scandalous week... or has it been two? I have no clue... You know how people talk about the New York minute? What about the freakin' Dubai minute? Or the Dubai week? Its like, the fastest week in the whole world. And I have had my fair share of speedy weeks to know this! Not sure if its just me, but I don't even have time to party... ok, its defo just me. Dubai + not-partying, dont got together, except for me!... which is tragic, especial for this blog, and more importantly, my readers.. hear I have a little bit of a fan base back in the UK... woo hooo... but your hands up for the readers in the UK (ok, so its my best friends Bex and Liz...actually, fuck, they prob don't read it anymore!)
after a rather interesting beginning to the week, (I found myself post-private-celeb-party-shenanigans (yup, I'm afraid that is all your getting on that rather interesting, and at points rather naked event) exhausted and recovering for the full week! But this week has been rather awesome for a savvy lil old stylist in Dubs. I managed to get arse into gear and managed working rather well on one hell of a hang over, lets just say I drunk a lot of champs, and some interesting shots, and took my top off.. but thats all your getting....
I finally got to work with Peter Richweisz, of mag Desert Fish, who is by far the best photographer in Dubs, check out his sites:
http://WWW.RICHWEISZ.COM
http://WWW.DESERTFISHMAG.COM
So keep your eyes open for the next issue of Desert Fish, out in Dec! woo hoo! its going to be one hell of a ride kids!
I did challenge him, who could get the best shots; I thought he was up to quiet a challenge, me with my fancy oh-you-can-drop-it,oh-you-can-put-it-in-water-and-it-wont-break camera. But surprise, surprise.. yeah, no competition. He is so badass, freakin awesome, and even thought the model is clearly stunning, he works that camera in such a way that I 'couldn't help buy wonder' (said just like SJP in EVERY episode of SATC, go watch it! if you didnt know that, you weren't watching hard enough) how I might look if I got in front of his lens, or is it behind his lens? I don't know... But if he took a piccy of me, I think even I could look awesome!
Although I said to myself "NO More styling jobs for a few weeks, get QRPD up and running" I can't help but say...yes. I am even thinking of making it a full time job and dressing more like Patricia Fields meets Anna Piaggi.. which is slowly happening on its own anyway... It is actually often, that a silly girl like me, gets called a
grandma when I think I am dressed up for a night out.. someone's just not getting it! Or Dubai is just not getting me. Which I am fine with.. I think its safer to remain the fruit loop with the flower in her hair, bag of tissues and too many note books for now.
So.. next week I will be styling an event at the Burj Al Arab, which I am pretty damn excited about... I havent been in, and from what I've heard its sounds damn right untastefully revoltingly over-the-top bad-and-wrong.... my cup of tea. Actually, coffee... I'm into coffee these days, but just one, in the morning. I'll be juggling this with another job for a hotel (totally top secret right now, not really but I'll go into it later), and I'll be put up in a hotel the night before the shoot as its a 3hr drive away.. which I think sounds rather fun!
I've also been doing a bit of fashion related writing for Infusion mag and trying to bring a little of what I know about fashion, design, and style to Dubai.. not sure if it is working.. the 300 words I have to cram on the 2 very mini pages doesn't give me enough freedom as lets say... this never ending story of a blog. But it's fun to have work "published". I get to use the word "Press" now at events, and tell people I am a "writer" or a "journalist" with an air about me, and people nod at me with that "oh that explains the intellectual image" look. (sure.)
Is it just me.. or does everyone feel like a kid just playing grown up? I do.. I really do! the only way I can get work done, is to pretend that it's my job. Which is weird, cos it is my job, and I dont need to pretend.. I guess its more fun to "play" grown up, instead of actually being one.
On that note.. I think I'll give ya my round ups of the week, and a few suggestions for ya all if your board.. I mean bored, unless you are a board-game:
1.MUSIC: check out Cyanide Valentine. I saw these guys in NY and they defo rocked my tequila-infused-boat, with songs like Freaks, from their old album and The Sweetest Season from their new shit, how can you not love them? and even more, love to dance to them. A mixture of dance, rock and some trippy d and b soundz will have you just as confused as me, but loving the new sounds pumpin' from yo beatbox, so pump that shit up, turn the lights low, invite some friends round for a seance, and get into it!:
www.myspace.com/cyanidevalentine
www.cyanidevalentine.com
2.if you have a TV (sounds like a weird thing to say.. if someone had said that to me I would have thought they were weird, but I am guessing you came to that conclusion long before this. You see, I don't have one, I only get to see tv once every 1-2weeks when I hang at my mummas). So if you like a bit of cheese, as in cheesey terrible tv, think Bold and the Beautiful but even more awesomely worse, this is what you should be watching, and what is penciled in my diary for those odd evenings when I am not working, check this shit out:
Wicked, Wicked Games
3. Where do I get my energy from? I hear you all scream... its all about the tuna and cottage cheese this month. this combo with a bit of arabic styley flav thrown in there, matoubul is like the best food ever! stick some tabouli in it and ya got my interpretation of an Arabic dish.
4. Ya wanna get my look, prob not, but I suggest putting some color into your winter wardrobe this season, well, winter hair-style really, with some fake hair extensions. You can pick up a badass selection of clip in extensions for those commitment-phobes out there, this is the perfect solution for you if ya not hard enough grrrrrrrawwwwwrrg.mmrrrrrr!!
5. this season fuck buying a tree and stick one up on your wall, check out these awesome life sized xmas tree posters. I mean, in this day and age I hardly have time to wash my towels, ask my sister, they stink so bad, its gross. You know that damn smell, when ya leave things in a wet mess, but keep using them over and over, and then leave them in a wet mess, but keep using them over and over, and keep leaving them in a wet mess,... ya get it right.. so they stink. I'm gross I know. But..."I dont have time!!" So I am now borrowing some towels off ma sister.. which is working out pretty well, but they are so freakin old I get a freakin exfoliating everyday.
oh, so here is the link for the tree (you can also find some other random and equally awesome gifts here):
www.firebox.com
Hopefully this is enough to keep you entertained and tune in next time for a teaser of any antics that I do get up to (which is poss, heading down to plastik beach party today, and last night I went to one of those.. well, lets say Dad wasnt too happy when i turned up wasted and completely soaked to my bday dinner with lia (who was throwing up at the table) and terry (who was rather well behaved for once!).
More from me.
Peace Out.

Too Old to Party, Too Young to Stop

When are you too old to stop partying like a rock star. I guess never really.. look at the New York Dolls, MiCK Jagger, Blondie.. they’re all still standing… well, barely. But for me, not being a rock star and all, I know that I can no longer afford these 2 day recovery days; can’t make it to the gym, too lazy to shower (is that just me!?) or even get out of bed (or just me again?). I’m just not hardcore enough.
It’s been a long 3-4weeks of “making an appearance” on the Dubai nightlife scene… not that I am special enough to even call it “an appearance”, or that Dubai is even important enough to be making an appearance for! But it’s my way of making myself feel that it is worth making an effort! My making appearance is a short hour of me, and very much sober me, hanging out while everyone gets messy on the dance floor… my tactic is too leave before I make a serious drunken faux pas which haunts me for the rest of the …week, until the next week I guess. So I’ve been a good girl, sober, good.. and.. yes, a little boring!
So this weekend was like a mega long bender, which left me rolling round moaning in my bed, well, the first 10 hours were spent rolling round on a friends couch, then in the taxi at 5am to my house, where I nearly threw up but kept it together (in my mouth). I finally forced some cereal (mixed with, not milk but, a protein shake – also part of my “new” “make-an-appearance” lifestyle!) down me, which was the first bit of food in 24 hours (defo too old to be doing the whole not-eating thing!) .
Now, 24hrs since the painful comedown began, I am starting to feel slightly more human, although looking far from the beginning of the night, which was now 48hours ago. I thought I look good, but apparently the rest of the Dubai “scenesters” did not! From ‘fancy dress’ to ‘what did you come as?’ to ‘you look like a grandma’ (which I kindda did) came from every angle. I don’t recovering period taking this long in my UK raving dayz! Or maybe I didn’t care some much about wasting a whole day in bed, I think I enjoyed those lazy, guilt-free, after party come-downs; now seeming a whole lot less guilt-free… But it was fun to return to my youth, and a little reminder of why I don’t do it so much anymore… If I’m going to dress like a grandma, I guess I should act like one too.

GET SUPER HERO - advice from a super hero: how to beat the flu and bullies at work
I've been pretty bust this week, busting butt on The fancy panty man-made Palm Island thingy we got going here in lil ol' Dubs..., which I'm pretty sure most of ya round the world have heard of by now...
I had a bit of a cold this week, and was not feeling up to super hero standards! But my mum forced me to drink some weird garlic and ginger magic potion which you can find online at:
www.baselinenutritionals.com
this s*%t is awesome! it contains a bunch of make-ya-feel-better-natural-crap which REALLY works! I had one day of being sick, and then..puff.. gone, back to superhero status! check out whats in it:
Ginger
Onion
Garlic
Olive leaf extract
Horseradish
Liquid ionic zinc
Oil of wild mountain oregano
Grapefruit seed extract
Habañero
Sounds gross right, but if you are a bit of a health freako like me, ya'll know how good this all is for fighting off the bad stuff, when you're not able to. But it really works. Look for Super ViraGon® (MegaGarlic) on the website.
I also took some awesome homeopathic remedy - which I highly recommend just having in your cupboard, at first sign of cold or flu take it, you can even take with your regular cough medicine to feed that addiction... I have a slight addiction to cough medicines, ... anyone else? Keep stock of:
Oscillococcinum
(No joke, that’s what it’s called!)
Ok, so I did this shoot which went AAAMMMAZINGLY well and should have taken pics, but in typical fashion, I ..didn't. But I do however have some pix that I saved from another shoot... which was, well..not so good; infact terrible, nearly the end of my career, my life, I was pretty hard on my self, after being blamed by the director and everyone else on set for everything that went wrong, including the desert being hot.. yeah, it was that bad! And I am a sensitive lil lady... This all kicked off a few weeks back, its taken me this long to come to terms with it. Kidding! I'm fine, I just felt like talking about it now... for reals. I am sure the experience was as bad for them as it was for me.. and they pretty much hate me. But it’s fine. I managed to make up for it this week...
The last, and evil shoot from hell (what I prefer to call it) took place in the desert over several dayz, the days kept changing and things got moved around and things got messy as I couldn't work the dayz the shooting had changed to... I won't go into boring details, but I ended up having to do fits with a bunch to street casted randoms in a big dining hall miles from home, where no one spoke English and I was like a goat herder in a freakin zoo for of elephants and lions... totally useless! It was complete ciaos, and comical, if it hadn't been so freakin un-comical!!!!
The night before our 5am start, I burnt the candle at 4 ends, mine and my lovely lil Deeya (thanks buddy!). I stayed up all through the night and only got to put my head down when... oh, no...I didn't. I arrived at location, the super hero that I am.. and didn't let them stand in my way! I screwed up a little, but not much, and as long as I was looking and feeling it... I was WOOONDER WOOOOMAN!!!!!

So when the going gets tough.... you get super hero!

this is how we do it (in New York)
Friday, November 9, 2007
my top ten obsessions:
10. BRIGHT LIGHTS:
neon orange contast cover stitching. check out one of my "love is a like a butterfly" arm bands, neon is the new black peeps. (made-to-order)

9.Tan in a Can!
Although we live in Dubai, some of us are ust to damn busy to be laying around in the sun... well, I am anyway. So, if ya like me, and find it hard to squeeze in a bit of down time, I think its worth spending the extra buck on a good fake tan, I've tried them all and this one is defo worth it: St Tropez mousse! it can be a little bit messy, so I recommend applying it in someone elses shower, or use the gym showers! I tried it at home once, and my once acid neon green towls are now a mucky color. But it's easy to apply, looks natural and will last a good few dayz. I suggest an every-other-day top up for an even, natural looking darker tan.

8. Bones
I'm sure I'm evil, but i bought this ring and....its awesome. The lady who sold it to me from a stall in portobello proudly told me "Its bone". Don't know whose bone it is, but at least its gone to a good home. (And I'm sorry I have your bone)

7. TIE ME UP:
Scalfs. Spring, Summer, Autumn, WInter..... round your head, bag, waist... where ever you want! A timeless and seasonless accessory. I have a large collection of vintage, cheapies and market finds from all over the world. I suggest you start one too!

6. what's puttin' the poppin' in ma boppin':
70's singer Lynsey de paul's Sugar Me.

5. LOAD of OLD CROCK:
tea cups. these fancy lil bits of crockery are more useful then ya think! Use these pretty little things for anything but drinking tea. (I bought this tea cup and saucer for a quid down portobello. Its found its home in my bedroom and is a lovely place to keep rings and earrings):

4. MIRROR MIRROR ON THE WALL:
vintage mirrors. you feel better when you look into something this pretty. check out the detail on this gorgeous mirror I picked up from a stall in covent garden:

3. FAIRY GODMOTHER:
fairies. I have millions all round my house. I love them! I am thinking of getting a huge one on my back. Here is one of my first faires, that I have had since I was really really little, like a baby propably. (ok, well, its not really mine, I stole it from my mum, so its preobably even older then I think it is!)

2. SEW NICE:
thimble collection: this wont be of interert.. to...many people I imagine! but for those who sew, they might be. I hope to see my thimble holder full by the end of the year! - xmas wish list someone!!!!

1. I LOVE THE 80s.
I try not to... but I cant help it! if you have a soft spot for this not so soft-hearted era, here are a few things you should be doing:
watching: Slaves of New York (this film.. its just bad-ass-awesome-Oh-
-my-god-I-miss-New-York-so-much-I'm-going-to-cry-AMAZING!). ANyone who loves NY LES (lower east side), 80s and fashion, esp hats, this movie is a MUST!
wearing: 80s prom dresses. RIGHt??!?!?!?!?! Who can't love these OTT, Jem and the Hollograms styley dresses. (oh, and add Jem on your dvd list! genius! I am telling you!)

listening: my fav REO Speedwagon.

thanks all for now.

Quiet Riot Paper Doll
so much has been happening in South Studio (my little den-come-studio-come-office) this week. It looks like a "wholey-crap-what-the-f%*@-just happened-in-here??!?!?" ...a creative bomb-site, thats if the bombs had been filled with glitter, butterflies and multi-colored pompoms, ribbons and buttons.
I have been busy gluing away, putting together pieces for my first collection, and things are coming on rather nicely.
Here is a sneaky peeky at what is to come...check me out rocking the look I am calling Poppin' Cherries, one of my one-off broaches from the Lost And Found Project, and my butterflied tutu, Love Me.

would love to hear comments on anything...
thanks.

Dubai International Fashion Week
Did someone die and did I end up at the funeral? Thats how I felt towards the end of the week.
Ok, so its a little harsh... but someone has to be...without gaining anymore enemies.. (its been a bad week for me, with fist fights on set with the agency to ruining a girls life, I think I have earned myself a first class one-way ticket to hell...) I think being a new place and all, with fashion still in its infancy, we can all be a bit nicey nicey here in this little bubble we call Dubai... I mean I am all about supporting my competitor (right).. but I have to say, I did have fun sitting in the front row bitching about the garments that were litterally falling off the models, or cut so oddly that they couldnt walk right... unless that is how they walk.. I wont mention names, becuase, well... see beginning of paragraph....
The after party was alright, the music was too quiet, there was far too much talkin, not enough dancing..or food. The food we did order was picked at by others; next time I suggest supplying more then nuts to hungry dubai-ians, who are not models and need a lot more for a thursday night out.. I know, being a victim to that dubai 5kg or whatever it is that everyone warns you about when you first move here.
I did get some good pics though.. which I'll share with you.. tomorrow... for now, here is a pic of me and my mini-me, Deeya...
Maybe I'll have something nicer to say tomorrow.. I think I am PMS-ing right now. It was not soooo bad, but the AMAZING reviews I read everywhere else told a different story to my impressions on the shows. I will post the good, bad and the ugly tomorrow...
nighty night xx

Ma Soeur, J'adore
my lovely beautiful french-wanna-be sister is back! and I am sure as hell glad to see her damn pretty little face! so she's all about talking in french, which is sweet for her, but I have no idea what she is saying.. it feels like when I used to work a 9 - 5 job.. and my boss used to tell me what to do, I felt like homer simpson listening to his boss, ya know.. when it all sounds like jibberish to him.... yeah, like that!
so, not only is my little sister one hell of a looker, but she is awesome at buying her big sista great gifts too...
I have this bad habit; anything i love (actually, even just reeaaallly like) I have to turn that buy into a collection, needless to say, I collect cats (not real ones, honestly, i can't take care of anything living), thimbles, necklaces, sunglasses, anything to do with fairies and angels, butterflies (again, not real),.. the list goes on.
So Lia, that's ma sis, brings back from France, my new, and lastest obsession, and new collectable, a copy of French Elle, circa 1962. Its so freaking awesome! I had to contain myself from dribbling all over it! It is truely delicious; yummy in everyway. the pages smell like...well, mothballs really, but the browned pages of the vintage Elle are filled with character, taking you back to somewhere..chic..and erm french..
It may, or may not excite you as much as me, but I thought it was worth a post anywayz. So enjoy... hopefully as much as I did!

London loves....(part two)

So just to vent real fast before I get onto the subject of london...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!! my room mate decided (ok, I'm sure she didn't do it on purpose, BUT, she screwed up my computer, well, not the hole thing but the w key, its not attached to the key board..as you might have already guessed (if you're smart enough, no, its not me making more eirdo typos).. hich is really messing ith me right no, so ithout furhter complaints..I ill do my best to continue ithout....
If you know me, you'll know that I have problems with staying focused..this blog is most likely to go back and forth in time and subject.. if you feel confused...welcome to my orld.
Portobello did more then make my mouth water at this sight of vintage tea cups, old suit cases, bird cages and rows and rows of cheap socks and t shirts, but i discovered one damn fine awesome hair salon too! Feeling a little bit too goth, with my long black and very dry dyed hair, I made it some what of a mission to find a suitable salon hich screamed to me! Screamed what, I'm not entirely sure, the louder...the better...
And there it was..in all its phsycedelic glory, Children Of Vision. Just before leaving for New York, about 5 yrs back, I had walked past it, and thought.. one day, I'll get my hair done in there...
I really wanted to get pix of inside the salon, but they were being kindda funny about it.. which is fine as I got a postcard...oh damn.. I had one, which I planned to scan in, but I put gum in it by mistake...BUT, i found this pix of it outside...so at least ya'll be able to find it!
So I rocked up, well, stumble in super hungover but buzzing from an awesome all-night party for 2 after one of the best weddings ever (its great being sat next to a cute boy, and then waking up next to him too!). I give a slurred description to Ian (my fav hair dresser in the whole world!) of the a-symmetric neon pink drama I had when I first moved to New York, one side shaved under cut, and two random pink rat tails with a blunt fringe was more then enough to frigthen my boyfriend-at-the-time on a flight right back to England. I wanted something similar, but not as full on! This time instead of going for pink (so o-v-a-h kill) Ian matched the color to the turquiose blue and bright blue I had painted round my eyes... (Yes, my plan worked).
An amazing-for-London 35quid for the cut, 35quid for the extensions and I call that a complete make over, London Bargain Barnet!
This salon will definitely go beyond the boundaries for you, with an extensive choice of mad colored hair extensions, and a dog that greets you at the dog, you won't find anything like it anywhere else. The space is wicked, has funky laid-back decor, awesome prices...and friendly stylists who will listen to your boring "i-pulled-last-night" stories.... or am I the only one at 27 who does that?!
Pls see pix, for before and after looks (I was hung over ok!) and check it out for yourself (and ask for Ian! mention I told you so, maybe I'll get some free extensions next time!):

London loves....(part one)

well, its more like Buffi loves LONDON! OMG, well folks, thats assuming I have any 'folks'..being a new blog and all, and having been a while since I posted, not sure I have any 'folks'... but anywayz... as I was saying..
So, London is like my top place EVER in the WHOLE world right now! (you'd think with all the love I have I would have got a discount on my 200quid fine for being 9kgs over the baggage limit... but no!) I came back over weight, bags and all, I put it down to how much absorbing of the culture, fashion, soul of london..hey its a whole lotta soul.... and a whole lotta loving..you can't expect to come back short on the cuddly size. I am a 27 yr old woman who is (coming to terms with being) proud of my curves!
I made sure I hit all the awesome markets; Spitalfields, Camden, Portolbello, charity stores; marlebone, finsbury, oxford circus, victory, and ventured into topshop where I was very disappointed, Primark beats TopShop hands down, with cute cheap ass socks and knickers (underwear to you American folks)... only things I wouldnt be buying in second hand stores.
As well as the bargains and gems I picked up on my insane "shopping" trip, I met a few gems. Spitalfields market was the first place I hit, where there happened to be this rather dissapointing free fashion show event going on.. but apart from that, it was really inspiring. I met this awesome chick, Nina Dewey, who makes even more awesome dresses from vintage shirts... they look incrediable on! The one I tried on, and eventually bought fit me like a lovely Lulu Guiness glove. Especially now finally admitting to my self that I am a cool medium, not the tiny small that I once was in my youth (which only happened to have been 6months ago, but hey, some of us age fast), I slipped on one of the one-of-a-kind halter dresses behind the back of a mirror, in the stall where she sells. The gaps behind me were enough to give someone a right eye full! Poor them! Anyway, point is, fit like a ..gem (note self:using that word too much today)! Like the designer, the dresses are feminine, individual and edgy, the perfect London find to take back to Dubai. But unlike other stalls, Nina is as strick on quality as she is with her patterns and fit.
Here is a pix of the chick herself. You can find more of her work at;www.enienay.com
....and maybe, if ya lucky, I will post a pic of me modelling one of these awesomely stunning garments!..
til part 2. peace outy

'Rockin' the box, livin' the mic' - An Interview with Kendra Morris

Kendra Morris' tiny frame does little to prepare you for her soulful, powerful voice, with heart felt lyrics that cause all the hairs on your arms to stand up, sending shivers down your spine. She manages to move even the very stiffest of the New York audience in a way unseen before. With her lyrics, beautiful and extremely powerful, a voice to match, her humor and presence on stage, everyone instantly warms to her. The audience becomes more then just a spectator, she invites them to become part of the experience.
Kendra has been 'singing since [she was in] the womb practically, since I was at least four, always in drama troupes or choir doing talent shows. Whatever I could sink my teeth into'. She went to a performing arts high school, which where she got her formal training. She majored in musical theater, receiving free vocal lessons, teaching her about breathing and how to take care of the voice she was gifted with. Kendra and her mother 'used to sing together, [they'd] sit in the car for hours and just try to one up the other on finding harmonies'.
She has this unbelievable old soulful sound, from a time pasted, which separates her from the other New York musicians. It is unsurprising that she is influenced by some of the greats, 'Donnie Hathaway, Ike and Tina Turner, Jimi Hendrix, Nick Drake, Brian Wilson, Pj Harvey, Liz Phair[...] The Temptations, my mommy, Bowie, The Faces, The Zombies, Hole, Aretha Franklin, Prince, Jackson 5, Crosby Stills and Nash, Neil Young, Dylan, Janis Joplin.'
Hidden behind her blond streaked highlights, and rocking her 'hair-metal look of the 80's' influence, she rocks 'loud pants and band tees', with funky jewelry all mixed together, which wouldn't normally make any sense, but on Kendra it somehow does. But then again, this 25 year old gal from Stockton, CA, can pretty much get away with anything; as she charms you with her sound, 'itching that scratch for someone that they just might not be able to get to'.
Moving to New York only 3 years ago 'to do nothing but hit the music scene and make something fabulous happen', Kendra has managed to caused a real stir. Her ambition and natural talent has already got her far. Having played at various places in New York, from Mercury Lounge, to Sin-e, to Fat Baby, she has a large , faithful audience already. Managing to fill out clubs more then many bars/clubs can on a Monday night gig. Kendra spends most her evenings at The Library, where she has worked behind the bar for over 2 years. She has a similar way with the customer's, but is slightly shy, which really does not prepare you for stage-Kendra.
It is easy to see where she gets her talent from, her mother 'sings and plays accordion and piano' and her father 'is an amazing guitarist and has a set of lungs as well!' A musical household where her parents 'were always playing in jam bands [and] would often hold practice at the house', while also attending church regularly, Kendra was destine for the stage. Kendra describes her musical style as 'Lofi Soul':
I say SOUL because I'm a soul singer, i make soul music [...] it comes from that very special sacred place... It bares the things that are so often hard for many of us to really let out. Soul music stirs. It is so expressive and often so sad. Its like it deals with our subconscious. Soul music wants to sob and wail and make love and groove and it tastes and smells and it is just something amazing and unique and rare. It is truly a gift to be able to make music, sing music that can execute for oneself and others those often hard to describe feelings.
I say LOFI because a lot of my recordings are very stripped down. I try to just let the song speak for itself. Sometimes less is more... Silence says a lot. Tape hiss has a comfort to it. We go through life aiming for perfection [long pause.]; looking for perfection in others; ourselves... but what we fall in love with are the imperfections. Its the burnt cookies your friend made for you from scratch that you remember, that you long for in the end. Not the Whole Foods 'gourmet chocolate chocolate chip' cookies on aisle 9.
It is Kendra's love for the burnt cookie, the mistakes in life, and the slightly broken, but individual characters that she meets along the way in New York that makes her so perfectly Kendra Morris.

Another New Fashion Blogger

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....Let me introduce the blogger..Thats me, looking fierce, but I dont bite... tooo much.
This is a blog which promises to be as different as every other blogger. (there are certainly not enough fashion/style related blogs out there! to be honest.. I think that is impossible!)
My recent move to Dubai has seen more then just a sun tan, my studio is quickly becoming a creative lil den for me. Although leaving New York seems mad to most ..ok, everyone! Its been the best thing ever. The bright lights of NY's East Village nightlife was far too attractive to me, and those nights spent at the bar, (or under it.... or on top of it) are now far more productive. Not that I didnt take anything with me from those dayz.
This blog will be more then a mini intro to my fashion line, which is evolving so fast.... Its looking far more buffi-ish..which is bit worrying.. as I know, some things... only I could wear! But, we will see.... I want this to be a sauce for inspiration for peeps all across the globe...
I would love to have a fashion/stylist correspondant from London, Melbourne and New York to feed me with awesomeness style, art, music from around the globe... If you think this could be you... send me some info, ideas and what ya got to offer! Send pix, links, ANYTHING!
Whether you are a designer, a fashion student, a photographer, a musician or a nobody with some interesting info for me...pls feel free to add to the blog! Lets make some colorful magic happen here...
looking forward to hearing from some inspiring people.....
peace.love.butterflies.
